VAB OD - Professional Preparatory Stream

The Professional Preparatory Stream is designed for students who want to excel in and supplement their dance training with additional classes in a professional environment. This acceptance-only stream builds from Victoria Academy of Ballet’s Open Division programs to give students intensive, specialized, and individualized training appropriate to their age. Through this stream students can prepare to audition and transition into VAB’s Vocational Divsion programs.

The Professional Preparatory Stream has specially designed classes that take place outside of regular school hours. VAB’s Artistic Faculty creates a set schedule and a set number of classes for each student. Students in this stream are required to participate in VAB’s Dance Intensive summer program to ensure continued development and progress through the summer. This stream is a great fit for both domestic and international students.

ACADEMICS

VAB’s Open Division Professional Preparatory Stream provides first-class, customized dance training to students who are seeking artistic and technical excellence. When students join VAB they will have the opportunity to have intensive dance training in the evenings while pursuing their academic education. Each student will receive an individualized program to ensure their personal goals are met.

VAB’s Open Division Professional Preparatory Stream offers a perfect balance between academics and intensive dance. For academic studies, students can attend a variety of schools accredited by the BC Ministry of Education that meet the highest standards of academic excellence and are in alignment with VAB’s guiding principles and educational values. Greater Victoria offers several choices in public and private schools. Learners receive the support of an experienced academic advisor dedicated to helping create academic programs in line with their individual educational goals. Working closely and collaboratively with selected educational institutions allows for personalized learning schedules and accommodates specific dance training schedules, ballet examinations and rehearsals. These schools offer a wide range of programs concluding in the BC Ministry of Education Grade 12 Dogwood Diploma and allow students to enter universities in North America and worldwide.

HOMESTAY

VAB offers homestay accommodation for international and domestic students. Carefully selected and screened host families provide a warm, comfortable, and supportive living environment, introducing the students to Canadian culture and helping them transition into a new routine, balancing dance and academic demands. Between experienced host parents and the Academy’s dedicated student services team, each dancer will be well cared for. International students are given a comprehensive orientation in their language when first entering VAB programs. The Academy continues to prioritize a holistic approach to dance training and pays close attention to each student’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Skilled and trained staff offers compassionate guidance and support when dealing with all aspects of living away from home, meeting medical insurance requirements, or connecting individuals with any type of resources and support needed for an optimal training experience.
