THE ACADEMY
Victoria Academy of Ballet (formerly Island Dance Studio) was established in 1990 by Christine Richardson FCSC-CICB, ARAD. Now under the leadership and direction of Bleiddyn Del Villar Bellis, FCSC-CICB, Victoria Academy of Ballet offers specialized dance instruction for children ages 2 through to professional level. VAB’s faculty offers the highest calibre of professional instruction in dance training and performance. All faculty are highly experienced, qualified teachers with a passion for dance. Open Division
The Open Division instills a love, joy, and passion for dance. Classes in the Open Division are offered for the full year, September to June, as well as in sessions running for 6 to 12 weeks long in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. Students ages 2 to adult are nurtured in a supportive, welcoming, and rewarding learning environment where they are inspired to reach their greatest potential.
Vocational Division
The Vocational Division is for committed students who wish to train in an intensive atmosphere. The Professional Training Program and Post-Secondary Bridge Program are within the Vocational Division and develop dancers who are prepared technically, artistically, and personally for a professional career. Acceptance into programs in the Vocational Division is by audition only.
Professional Training Program: For the student who wishes to pursue a career in dance, an intensive half-day program combining academics and dance. Age 12+.
Post-Secondary Bridge Program: 3-year diploma in ballet and contemporary dance designated by the BC Ministry of Advanced Education, Private Training Institutions Branch. Bridge the gap from student to professional.
The Bridge Program holds designation status with the BC Ministry of Advanced Education, Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) as well as Education Quality Assurance (EQA) status. These designations are indications that a post-secondary institution meets or exceeds the provincial government’s quality assurance standards. The EQA and Designated status are recognized globally as symbols of quality education and consumer protection.
